When I graduated the Maastricht school of Art in 2008 I left with a cum laude bachelors degree in Jewelry design. But sometimes you stumble up on a material that takes you by surprise.

For me it was clay. It was love at first sight. Already a designer by trade I saw endless possibilities. So I took on this new journey and dived deep in learning all the techniques I could think of.

Now Several years later I dare to say I am a ceramicist. I love the earthiness, how it feels in my hands and the transformation it undergoes in the kiln.

In my glazes I search for that same feeling. I don’t want to hide my love for clay behind a layer of brightly colored glaze. I want the quality of my work and the materials I use to shine through. Sometimes even my own glazes catch me by surprise and create something I didn’t really visioned that way. But that is ok too.

Beauty, for me, lies in a certain degree of imperfection. The harmony that nature shows us when we look at the bigger picture, isn’t that harmonious at all when we zoom in. Therefore the individual pieces in my collection are not identical twins, but rather a family of items where each and everyone of them has their own characteristics. Together they are very balanced.

So please, if you see my work somewhere, touch. I make items for everyday use. You should be able to handle them. I make tactile items, you should touch and feel. And if you’d like to adopt, choose the one (or ones) which would make your family more complete.
